If your business was a plant, then content would be the fertilizer that accelerates your growth. And,if you want to maximize the growth of your business you need to give it the best content possible.

The problem with this metaphor is that you have to create rich content and enough of it to attract new leads and convert them. It can be exhausting if you don’t know the secrets to recycling content you’ve already created.

Let’s look at some ways you can maximize your content to grow your business…

#1 Cut it up. Use snippets from your content and publish them as tips on social networking sites. For example, a single article might have five to ten tips. You can schedule them to be posted on Facebook and Twitter with links to your website.

#2 Collect it. Collect like articles and/or blog posts to create a larger downloadable product. For example, you might collect ten articles on the topic of organizing your closet and create a report for your visitors. It’s a nice way to offer something for free and provide your readers more value.

#3 Piecemeal. Separate reports and ebooks into smaller articles or blog posts and share them on your ezine.

#4 Weekly wrap up. Create teaser paragraphs for each article or blog post you’ve published the past week and create a weekly wrap up. You can post it as an article and/or send it to your subscribers so they don’t miss a word.

#5 Reuse social networking efforts. If you’re using social networking to grow your business consider pulling comments you’ve made or content you’ve published and use it on your blog or as an article marketing piece. Often, we provide valuable information to others on social networking sites. It’s a shame to not provide that same value to your blog readers or website visitors.

#6 Answers. You can also use any questions you’ve answered via comments on your blog or social networking sites and publish them on answer sites like Yahoo answers.

#7 Link Love. Always strive to include a link. You can link to your website to drive traffic to a specific page. Or you can link to an affiliate product that relates to your article.

#8 Ezine. Repurpose or expand on articles or blog posts you’ve written to provide your subscribers with more information and value.

#9 Syndicate it. Consider syndicating your ezine content (not your website content or blog content because it’ll cause duplicate content issues). Syndicating your ezine content can help drive traffic to your website or blog and build awareness.

#10 Rewrite it. Rewrite any and every article or blog post you publish and use it for article marketing purposes. Republish it on article marketing websites or as guest blog posts. Make the most of your writing efforts. In fact, you can hire a Virtual Assistant to rewrite your existing content and double the results.

There are many things you can do to maximize your content and grow your business. These are just ten of the hundreds of ideas. When you sit down to plan your content this week or this month, look at way s to make the most of it and generate traffic and profits.

Copywriting Tips for Better Content

POSTED BY Kenya Halliburton | 0 comments

Copywriting is the “bees knees” of content marketing. (I always wanted to say that…lol)

As a solo webpreneur there may be times you need to DIY your content. Maybe you are just starting out and bootstrapping it, or in a time crunch and have to roll up your sleeves and get it done. Whatever the reason, your job will be made easier armed with some basic copywriting tips to make sure your copy hits the mark.

What’s copywriting anyway?

Copywriting is the art of writing to sell or achieve a specific goal. Anything from a landing page to an advertisement employs some type of copy writing skill and technique. You can use these same techniques to improve your content.

Let’s look at a few key elements of your copy and how to maximize their effectiveness…

Headlines!

The headline of your article or blog post is vitally important. It motivates people to read your article. Presumably, your article or blog post has a goal. Thus the more people who read your content, the more likely it is you’ll achieve your goal.

For example, you may want to promote an affiliate product in your article and your goal is to earn commissions. If your headline attracts attention, you’ll increase your readership and thus your click through rate will increase. More readers means more profits.

So how do you write great headlines? Try these techniques:
* Ask a question
* Make a promise
* Offer a benefit
* Arouse curiosity
* Appeal to emotions
* Use numbers
* Make an announcement

Call to Action

Once you’ve motivated someone to read your content, make sure they take action. Again this ties back to the purpose or goal for your article or blog post. If you want people to read more content on your website then include a few relevant links at the end of your article. Tell them to click on the links to learn more about your niche. Always include some sort of call to action, even if you just want them to leave comments on your blog.

Use Examples

One great way to really get your reader involved in your content is to use examples. In a blog post you can use personal examples. In your article content you may want your examples to be more general.

Examples help paint a picture for your readers. Instead of just telling them something, you’re showing them too.

Visual Aids
More and more content online is also using visual cues to make it interesting to the reader. Any sales letter is going to have many subheadings, bold lettering on words that need to grab attention and bullet points to draw the eye down. In addition to formatting your content for easy online reading, consider using photos, graphics and other images to help inform your reader.

It’s not uncommon for a blog to include a photo in every single blog post. Additionally, if you’re writing a how to article you might include a few demonstration photos. If you’re writing a review you might include an image of the product you’re reviewing. And if you’re writing an informative article you might include graphs, charts or screenshots.

Using a few handy copywriting tactics for your content can help improve readability, reader response and it can help you achieve better content marketing results. Try implementing a few of these ideas and watch your results soar.

If you want your marketing to be successful, you have to know your target audience intimately. By being close to the customer’s hearts and knowing what their pains are, you can benefit by providing information in order to meet those needs. Don’t talk to them like a salesman delivering a sales pitch– always talk to your customers like they are your friends.

One of the most important gifts you can receive from implementing a Content Marketing Strategy in your online business is the gift of customer intimacy.

What is customer intimacy?

Wikipedia defines Customer Intimacy as, “a concept from marketing, which describes the ability of a supplier to become accepted and known as the regular partner with its customer.”

It essentially means that you and your customers develop a co-creator relationship in crafting the solutions you provide.

What does this look like?

Let’s say you create a survey/poll. Respondents that identify with your questions will complete your survey. You take the results and create a teleclass providing answers based on the results of your survey.

You asked them, they told you, and you created a custom fit solution that sells itself.

Whether the solution you offer is for free or fee, you will have successfully created a bond that will position you as someone to seek out when they need solutions.

Here are 5 key strategies to creating customer intimacy with your content:

  1. Stop talking about your product/service and start educating your audience about how the features of your offerings help them become, better, smarter or more profitable.
  2. Use surveying tools to uncover the pains and challenges of your market.
  3. Find out what content vehicles your market prefers (i.e. written, audio, video).
  4. Make your content “sticky” by ensuring you always present relevant and usable content.
  5. Create a plan for incubating and producing solutions. This could be as simple as publishing a survey at the beginning of the month and re-purposing it as a solution by the end of the month. be sure to take into consideration the restraints on your time, financial and support resources.

The Gift that Keeps on Giving:

One of the by-products of getting your customer’s feedback in their own words is you can more easily speak their language when you are developing promotional content. We know that sometimes it can be difficult to get out of our own heads and speak to the heart of our prospects and clients.

Here are a few examples of ways you can use the feedback from your surveys:

  1. Create sales pages that capture their pains in their own words
  2. Create email campaigns that inspire clicks
  3. Create info products that provide the results they are looking for
  4. Create a blog that draws hot and ready leads

And I am sure there are tons more. Now that we’ve opened the gift of customer intimacy, let’s rip into the next package in this series…

5 Awesome Things Your Get to Do After You Have Your Content Marketing Strategy for Your Online Business

Press the Relax Button!

There is a lot that goes into building an online business. For many solo webpreneurs this translates into frustration, overwhelm and sleepless nights wondering when all the hard work and investment will pay off!

The cool news is that there is a way to gain control of the vision and success of your brand. Yep! You guessed it…Content Marketing.

Content Marketing for webpreneurs is like a cool dip in the pool on a hot summer’s day. It allows you to establish a rhythm of  content creation and distribution that puts you in front of your marketing instead of you chasing behind.

In this post I just wanted to highlight some of the relief you can experience when you wave the white flag and surrender the success of your business to the powers of content marketing.

  1. Take a Guilt Free Vacation: Ahhh, who doesn’t want this? 13+hour days trying to launch this and track that, leaves many webpreneurs dreaming about when they can take a much needed restoration break. Once you have a content marketing strategy in place, your business will work for you, even when you and your team are enjoying a little R&R.
  2. Focus on Getting More Clients: With a solid content marketing plan in action, you’ll have a custom built 24/7 sales team deployed at all times. This means your articles, blog posts, videos and podcasts will be doing the work of pre-selling and educating prospects on your offerings, leaving you time to devote to getting new business.
  3. Create or Improve Products/Services: Just as illustrated in the previous point, you will be able to devote more time to developing your business, instead getting stuck on the marketing treadmill. You can free your mind to inspire new ideas for creating and improving infoproducts and services that will increase your WOW factor.
  4. Direct People to Your Site Without a Disclaimer: Have you ever directed people to your site with the “it’s under construction” disclaimer? Well, a strategic content marketing strategy will address the content gaps on your site, so that you can be confident that it is always up to date and ready to accommodate prospects who want to take action!
  5. Delight in Your Profitable Momentum: Finally, the gift we’ve all been waiting for, profit! A Content Marketing strategy more than any other “fill-in-the-blank” marketing method out there, oils the wheels of your online business so that there is a continuous flow of ready to buy traffic to your site(s).  It removes the need to market out of desperation and gives you a new confidence to grow your business in ways that you never imgagined possible.

These are just a few benefits of content marketing can bring relief to your online business.

YES YOU CAN!

If I told you it took me 3 years to get up the courage to hit send on my newsletter without being anxious or posting an article and looking forward to the comments, you might hesitate to believe me.

But it’s true!

As an introvert, standing out in front has always been a battle for me. But, I learned early on to do it afraid. Now, for me that often meant taking time to find the courage to do the thing. But, I always did it… eventually.

There is a lot less anxiety in being in front of the computer screen versus a room full of people. However, the vulnerability you feel in the same in both cases.

It can be a scary thing to release content on the web. For some, writing something crappy, hearing our own recorded voice  or seeing ourselves on camera for the first time makes us cringe and hide in our cushy little home offices stuck in our brilliance.

Still, there are other reasons people get stuck in fear of creating content like…

  • You don’t want to give away too much
  • Can’t keep up with the demand of a content publishing schedule
  • Not enough ideas
  • Too many ideas and not knowing where to start

But, I have seen the light and I want to share with you some principles that helped be shake my fear of sharing my content with the world.

Focus on your passion for helping others through your knowledge and expertise.

The advise you often hear for public speaking is if you know what you’re talking about, it becomes easier. And, the more you do it the easier it gets. The same is true for stepping out online. I credit Kathy Brandon, the Hapiness Chick and CEO of R4H Group for helping me realize I was playing small.

She told me I was “shadoboxing”. I was hiding my greatness by working for great people and not stepping into my full potential. So, a new website went up with my face plastered all over it and now I’m saying to the world “This is me, this is what I know and I want to share it with you!”.

Thanks Kathy!

Practice imperfect action. If it’s crappy let it go.

Another Achilles heel is trying to make it perfect before releasing it.  I can’t tell you how many emails I’ve gotten from some of my favorite internet marketing “cool kids” with errors and mistakes. And you know what? They send a correction email to follow up their error and keep it movin. I just love that! Maybe for you the design isn’t quite the way you want it, or you want to add this or that. Just let it go. Perfection is a fantasy and a success killer. Practice taking imperfect action and tweaking things for improvement while in motion. You’ll find that people want you to succeed and are more than willing to give you feedback on how to better your communications with them.

Believe in yourself, no matter what.

Don’t get lost in other people’s disbelief. Think of how many successful people you admire had doors closed and were told they could not do something. Now consider yourself one of them and keep it movin’.

Trust yourself more that you trust the advice of others.

It’s easy to look at the outside trimmings of someone’s success and think they know more than you and choose what worked for them versus what’s best for you. Trust your instincts and your vision. Try your way. If it fails tweak it, if it fails again try plan B and keep it movin’.

If Steve Jobs would have followed conventional wisdom and chose not to drop out of college. He would have missed sitting in on a seminar that opened his mind to think different and the world may have never known iPods, iPhones and personal computing as we know it. Think about it! Trust Yourself!

Focus on making meaning not money.

Okay, I am not saying money is not important. But, when your focus is on money, that comes through in your marketing and prospects can smell it a mile away. Their buyer’s objection goes up and sales fly away. Focus instead on providing value that makes people’s lives and business better and they will reward you with your business and tell others.

These are some of the ways I’ve been able to push past fear and live out my passions. I hope they inspire you to step out and play a bigger game in your life and business.

Copywriting is a skill that develops over time (that is, if you even want to find the time to do it!) and there is always plenty to learn about what works, what doesn’t and how to put it together.

Here are a few quick, easy and painless ways to add a little oomph to your copy …

Add Benefits to Your Features

Features are nice, but benefits are what really sell your product. Start with a list of features of your product and then determine the benefit of those features.

Make Your Copy Scannable

People often scan sales pages rather than reading them word for word – this is particularly true online where reading large pages of copy make the eyeballs dry out. Try using bullets, numbering, small paragraphs, shorts sentences…etc to break up your copy and make it easier to read.

Be Specific

Regardless of what you’re writing about – your promise, your proof, your supporting statements – the more specific the information the better. Use numbers and statistics to add credibility and depth to your content. Remember, don’t over do it and make too boring.

Use Attention Grabbing Headlines

A headline is where you capture your prospect’s attention; therefore; your headline is a critical component of each and every single piece of content you produce.

Leverage Sub Headings

Subheadings are mini-headlines peppered throughout your sales copy and any online writing. They are designed to help your readers find the precise information they’re looking for and to grab their attention if they have veered off in their focus in what is on the page.

Use Compelling Transitions

A common weakness to compelling writing is the absence of transitions. Transitions are what connects one paragraph or section of your copy to the next.

Create a Sense of Urgency

Even though people may be excited about your product after reading about it, they may just decide they’ll buy later. Problem is, most times when they decide to buy later; they never get around to it.To prevent this, you need to create a sense of urgency. In other words, make them feel like they need to buy now.

Here are some ways you can make them feel like buying now:

  • Offer a time-limited discount.
  • Limit the distribution of your product.

Provide an Offer

Your offer is what your prospect is going to get when they make a purchase or follow through on your call-to-action. To make the most of your offer, make sure it is easy to read and that each sentence is very specific. You want people to know exactly what they’re getting.

Include a Call to Action

A call-to-action is what you want your reader to do once they read your content and is a critical element to getting the results you want. It may seem obvious to you what they should do next, but if you don’t tell them, they may not know what to do or simply choose to do nothing.

Seal the Deal with a great closing

Tidy up your conversations with your readers and have a closing. After you’ve made your call to action…give them another reason to take action.

Don’t forget the P.S.

To P.S. or not to P.S., that is the question…studies have shown that on a sales letter, people read the headline, they read the first paragraph and then they zip down to the bottom of the page, generally looking for the price or summary of the offer.

Your P.S. will reiterate the benefits and it will have a call to action. If the headline and the P.S. do their job, your prospect will now go back and skim your sales letter for relevant information.

Let’s be real. The internet marketing blueprints don’t quite spell guaranteed success like they did even a year ago.  Depending on the sensitivity of your audience and if you’re in an over-saturated niche,  you may be finding your marketing efforts are not hitting the mark. And, in some cases, they may not be working at all.

The other annoying part of the online marketing process is, you can get so caught up in the noise of trends and execution that you lose your ability to be authentic in communicating your voice and vision to the world. When you lose your ability to communicate the personality of your brand, you lose your ability to connect with your audience on a deeper level. It is that connection that guarantees you will make money and deliver meaning for to the lives and businesses of those you serve.

So, how do you ensure that your marketing efforts create a revolving flow of eager to buy prospects and return customers (without losing your soul)?

Here are 5 tips that reveal how to leverage your content to move your target audience to buy from you:

1.) Kill Your Fear of Success with the Courage of Inspired Action:

The first thing we need to address before you can attract sustainable success is to get over the fear. What fear am I talking about? The fear of imperfection, public scrutiny, people unsubscribing from your list, and so on… All this really translates into fear of success. This is a lesson I had to learn and am practicing even as I write this article for you. You can’t help that God made made you brilliant. But, you owe it to the world to step out in courage and bless others with the gifts, talents and knowledge to do the same for themselves.

2.) Edu-tain! Don’t Bore Your Audience Away:

There are billions of people in the world and most of them are connected by the wonderful web. But, there is only one you. And no matter how many other coaches, authors or speakers there are in your niche, there are people who are only designed to answer your call. But, if you mute your message with watered down plr or outsourced content, you will repel success. Educate and entertain your audience by bringing your unique personality to your delivery. Find ways to excite and strike that cord in people that activates that “She’s like me” cord.

3.) Seek to Add Value, Not to Make Money:

It’s not about you. It’s about using your talents and knowledge to improve the lifer of others. When your focus in on value and not matching your auto-responder sequence to fit a formula that worked for someone else, but isn’t working for you…(exhale here)… you will release yourself to be effective and the money will flow. Boy will it flow!

4.) Coach to Sell It:

Don’t let anyone tell you “You Can’t…”, until you try it first. One of my biggest pet peeves is being told you can’t do something . “You can’t price that this way, because people don’t know you”, “You can’t be successful without SEO”, You can’t market yourself that way because, people won’t get it”.

Coaching to sell allows you the opportunity to make them get it. And, to each “you can’t” there are millions of example of people who did and are. If people don’t understand what you are offering or don’t know that they need it, spell it out through your content. Whether you do it with articles, audios, videos, it doesn’t matter. Content Marketing is not a “sexy” search term for my market, but after people understand how effective it is in removing their sales wall…I am confident it will be!

5.) Brand Your Content: Branding your content means to position your message in a way that makes it stick and conditions your audience to look for your stuff. Newsletters/eZines, article series, podcasts delivered consistently are all examples of content that can be branded for stickiness. It helps people to pay attention. Think of how you watch for or Tvo you favorite television show. If a prospect follows you this intensely, you have established the know, like and trust relationship that will eventually translate into a sale.

When these 5 elements are in play in your business, there will always be a flow of people discovering, following, and purchasing inside your sphere of influence. Create a path that people can follow to get to know you, like you and buy your stuff and your marketing will always work.

Why Women Run the Web and the World…

POSTED BY Kenya Halliburton | 0 comments

Okay, I had to share this poem with you. If you like it, let me know and I’ll mine for more content that brightens your day!

Beyonce was right to write a song about it. Sometimes we just need to be reminded of who we are and the power we have. As a woman, I know that we often get so busy with life, we forget to take a step back to apppreciate the beauty of who God made us to be. Take a few minutes today to enjoy this poem and yourself!

You Go Girl!

Why Women Cry

Watch her eyes

A little boy asked his mother, “Why are you crying?” “Because I’m a woman,” she told him.

“I don’t understand,” he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, “And you never will.”

Later the little boy asked his father, “Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?”

“All women cry for no reason,” was all his dad could say.

The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry. Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone, he asked, “God, why do women cry so easily?”

God said: “When I made the woman she had to be special.

I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet gentle enough to give comfort.

I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.

I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.

I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.

I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.

I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.

And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed.”

“You see my son,” said God, “the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart – the place where love resides.”

To be successful, the first thing to do is fall in love with your work.
~Sister Mary Lauretta

There is no shortage of speakers, authors and coaches in love with promoting their services online. The good news is, if you are one of them, there is still time to grab the top spot.

How?

Well, of course there are a million ways. But, the best way is to position yourself as the go to resource for your industry. See, there will never be another Oprah, Mya Angelou or “fill in the blank with your professional crush”. So, likewise there is only one YOU. That means you have a perfect opportunity to create a space where only you can make money and meaning.

If you are like me, you have this deep yearning inside of you to make money and meaning with your work and the web is the perfect vehicle to make it happen. But sadly, many brilliant women webpreneurs get their wheels stuck in the mud of copycat marketing and cookie cutter messaging.

I mentioned earlier that there are a million ways to step out and stand out online. But, my most favorite by far is the creation of your very own movement. Before we get deeper into how content marketing will fuel your movement. Let’s first take a look at some ingredients essential to getting you started…

  1. Thought Leadership:
In school, being the one to raise your hand to ask the question got you points with your teacher as well as your apprehensive classmates. Look for ways to inspire people to think differently about a solution. Successful webpreneurs  are not afraid to shake things up and start the conversation.
  2.

  3. Build a Unified Online Presence for Your Brand: Your website and social networking messaging should be in sync and consistent. Here’s a big giveaway…Most of your competitors (your fellow speaker, author or coach) do not have a content marketing strategy. They are operating on tactics. A robust presence will not only make it easier to attract new prospects and customers; it will also attract other opportunities for exposure (i.e. strategic partnerships, television, radio and magazine interviews…etc).
  4.

  5. Have a Marketing Strategy: Speaking of tactics, there is a real difference between tactics and strategy. It’s important to recognize how important having a marketing strategy is to your objectives for growth. Don’t get caught up in the bells and whistles of the latest marketing trends and technology. Consciously set the direction of your marketing and choose only the marketing tools that provide the means to a profitable end.
  6.

  7. Be a Rebel: I don’t know how many times I have been told “You can’t “. In order to create a movement with your message you have to have the courage to promote a bold, outrageous and provocative point of view.
  8.

  9. Commitment to Your Message:
This piece reinforces how essential it is to have a marketing strategy. If you are anything like me, you have a million and one ideas hitting you at different times. And, if you are not careful you can find yourself lost and confused about who you are and what you are offering. If you don’t know what you stand for and where you are leading your tribe, no one will follow.
  10.

  11. Inspire to Action:
Ensure in every message  there is a distinct call to act. After consuming your engaging and usable content, your audience should feel inspired to either buy or connect with you in some way. Don’t just assume they will. Be deliberate in asking them to act; to do something to be apart of the movement.
  12.

  13. Embrace the Publisher in You!
I mentioned before that a majority of your competitors are not using content marketing in their business, at least not strategically. See, many speakers, authors and coaches online, are content marketing by default. They still view content as a last minute item on their to-do-list, which keeps them chasing after their marketing. When you see yourself as a publisher of information, your approach  creating valuable content for your audience is fueled by more passion not dread.    Treat your content as a treasured asset and people will follow you the web wide and beyond.
  14.

Creating a movement may sound intimidating. But, it falls in line with the way we make buying decisions today. Social media has created a new breed of consumers. It’s no longer enough to sell people a solution. They want to feel like they are intimately a part of creating it. A movement allows you to make money while giving meaning to your customers.
